New views for New Beginnings horses

DATE: 29 APR 2017

New Beginnings is taking a big step into the future by moving yard, horses and postcodes.

It's a poignant moment for New Beginnings Horses – since transitioning to become a charity in January 2016 the organisation has flourished and has now outgrown its current base at Low House Stud in Hanging Grimstone on the Garrowby Estate.

With the tremendous support of its Landlords, the Earl and Countess of Halifax, New Beginnings is on the move in May with horses, cats, volunteers and staff to a new part of the estate at The Grange in Bishop Wilton.

"No move is ever easy but our challenge is made less complicated due to the recent acquisition of a new lorry, thanks to a grant from the Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust. We can now press both our vehicles in to action not just for safely transporting the horses to their new home but also some of the essential equipment as well," said Pam Hollingworth, who is co-director of New Beginnings with Kevin Atkinson.

"It's very sad to be leaving Low House Stud,” she continued, “it has certainly served us well, but there are many benefits to the move... not only space and facilities on the new yard but also the additional hacking options as well. It will be a massive benefit to the horses coming through our care."

There will be time for a yard-warming event in the future but, for now, the priority is to get all horses, humans and animals settled in their new surroundings. Anyone keen to assist, financially or physically, is very welcome to get in touch – the team will continue to monitor communications during the move.

In the mean time you will find the New Beginnings team at:

  • York Racecourse on May 19 (at our stand with New Beginnings Horses HARRY and MEG) and 27, June 17, July 1, 15 and 29
  • Pontefract Racecourse on June 25 and July 30, when we hope to have a parade of New Beginnings horses

"As a small breeder of thoroughbreds and an owner of racehorses I am proud to be a Patron of New Beginnings. As a horsewoman myself, I can fully endorse the care and empathy shown to these magnificent horses. The dedication, passion and commitment given by Pam and Kevin to the welfare of all the horses in their care is second to none. The Racing Industry is lucky to have their support."
